Superintendent Press Release May 3, 2024

Dear Cedar Bluffs Families,

What an exciting time to be a Wildcat. At the end of the year, we are hosting so many celebrations of academic and activity/athletic achievements. I’m amazing at the amount of college classes completed, career internships that have led to fulltime jobs or scholarships to help students complete two and four year college. We have many seniors leaving with athletic scholarships, academic scholarship and/or direct offers for careers. Many of our seniors have completed 6 to 24 college credits while in high school. Our seniors were awarded graduation “chords” this week at our academic recognition night, and it was astounding to see our kids have a vision of where they were going. I remember when I first started in education some 30 years ago, students were just happy to graduate and although they had some idea of what was next, they didn’t have a vision for what they wanted to do or what they wanted to be. These seniors have had the opportunities to really find their passion and it is so exciting to see. We had future medical students, future educators, future plumbers, future designers, future computer IT engineers - everyone had something and to sit with the kids at our annual staff and senior dinner to speak to each one of them and listen to them “know” what they wanted to do, where they were going – truly sensational. I congratulate the class of 2024 from Cedar Bluffs and thank all our staff and those who helped them on their journey. It takes a village.

Reminder, summer school starts June 3rd as does our after school program. The summer school is in the AM and then we provide a summertime meal, and then students can attend the afterschool program in the afternoon. Along with this are our weight lifting, summer athletic programs and sport specific camps all summer long. Busses do run to Fremont in the morning, after the meal at noon and in the afternoon so all kids have the opportunity to participate. Also new this year is the Cedar Bluffs 100 hours Fitness Club. Log your fitness over the summer and get a free shirt. Please contact the school for more information.

Also during summer we will be finishing up the link to connect the new gym and cafeteria to the current school plus we were just awarded a safety and security grant to move our main office to the front of the building. We are hoping to begin that project this summer and be complete before school starts. Currently when visitors buzz to get into the main school entrance, we expect them to come to the main office but technically they could walk anywhere since it is open. By moving the security entrance to the front, visitors will only be allowed to enter the rest of the building once passing through the security entrance. Also, we hope to begin construction on the old cafeteria space, turning that area into classrooms. Currently if you enter the elementary doors, visitors could bypass the offices and head directly into the old cafeteria space. The new design will block that direction forcing visitors to the elementary office. I am also working on another Federal grant through the Safe Violence and Prevention Program that will allow us to add a FEMA rated shelter on our campus by enclosing the current courtyard north of where the old kitchen used to be. Should be a busy summer!
